What Are the Minimum Wage Updates for 2026?

January 9, 2026

In 2026, states and localities will again be raising minimum wages, continuing the increases implemented in prior years. The wages listed below do not apply to tipped employees.

Because many 2026 rates are tied to inflation and subject to final agency confirmation, employers should continue to monitor updates.

California Minimum Wage

  • $16.90 per hour

California Cities Minimum Wage

  • Los Angeles (city) $17.87 per hour
  • Los Angeles (county) $17.71 per hour
  • San Diego $17.75 per hour
  • San Francisco $19.18 per hour
  • West Hollywood $20.25 per hour

Connecticut Minimum Wage

  • $16.94 per hour

New Jersey Minimum Wage

  • $15.92 per hour

New York Minimum Wage

  • New York City, Long Island, and Westchester County: $17.00 per hour
  • Remainder of New York State: $16.00 per hour

New York Salary Increases

New York continues its multi-year schedule of increasing the salary basis threshold for executive and administrative employees. Effective January 1, 2026, the minimum salary thresholds increased as follows:

  • $1,275.00 per week ($66,300 per year) for employees in New York City and Nassau, Suffolk, and Westchester Counties.
  • $1,199.10 per week (62,353.20 per year) for employees in the remainder of New York State.

New York does not establish a separate salary threshold for employees classified under the professional exemption. As a result, for New York employees treated as exempt professionals, the current federal salary threshold of $684.00 per week will continue to apply.

Federal Salary Rate

The federal minimum wage remains $7.25 per hour, with no scheduled increase for 2026. The federal salary basis threshold for the executive, administrative, and professional exemptions remain subject to prior increases and potential future adjustments. Employers should confirm that exempt employees continue to meet both the salary basis and duties test under federal law.
